Alan Chew has been a Trust Waikato trustee since 2012.
Alan is of Malaysian–Chinese descent. He immigrated to New Zealand from Malaysia in 1975. He is a chartered accountant and chartered secretary, and founded the Houston Technology Group, a technology company with branches in Tauranga and Hamilton, in 1986.
Through his role as a trustee on the Trust Waikato board, Alan also serves on the board of Te Kete Putea General Partner; a company that provides donations management software systems for most community trusts in New Zealand. He is very passionate about this additional responsibility, where he can offer his extensive knowledge of IT.
Having grown up in poverty, Alan feels well-equipped to understand and assist the groups that apply to Trust Waikato for funding, particularly those working to break cycles of deprivation within their communities.
