Norm Barker has been a Trust Waikato trustee since 2014.
Norm lives on the farm he grew up on – in the foothills of the Mamaku Ranges, near Tirau in South Waikato. The farm is dairy, although in recent years Norm and his wife Eileen have done environmental planting, with both native and exotic species on their land.
Norm is an active member of the South Waikato community, and is currently the Deputy Chair of the Waikato/Hauraki Rural Support Trust, a member of the Waikato Conservancy Board, and President of Putaruru Justice of the Peace Branch. He served as a councillor from 1998 to 2013, firstly on the South Waikato District Council (1998–2007) and subsequently the Waikato Regional Council (2007–2013).
Norm derives satisfaction from Trust Waikato’s status as a perpetual trust, “knowing that our decision-making is based on long-term investing for the generations to come.”
