The Government is supporting the expansion of a voluntary credits nature market through the running of pilot projects across New Zealand.

We’re excited to see the positive impact of our funding at Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari, where powerful conservation work is helping shape the future of biodiversity in Aotearoa.

As part of the Government pilot exploring voluntary nature credits, this incredible inland sanctuary is showing how protecting and restoring native ecosystems can be recognised and rewarded in new and meaningful ways.

“We’re humbled to support initiatives that make a real difference for our taiao (environment). Our funding is helping to protect and restore the unique ecosystem at Maungatautari, while also contributing to innovative solutions like nature credits that could benefit communities and environments across Aotearoa.” – Janise Eketone, Chair, Trust Waikato

This kaupapa is about more than conservation – it’s about empowering landowners, iwi, and community groups to care for our natural taonga while unlocking new opportunities for the future.
