Associate Minister of Finance Hon Shane Jones recently announced 25 appointments and reappointments across nine of Aotearoa New Zealand’s 12 community trusts, including the appointment of four new trustees to Trust Waikato.
Trust Waikato is pleased to welcome Blair Currie, Christine Hall, Andrew Peckham and Chris Williams to its Board.
Each trustee brings a range of experience, leadership and strong connections across the region. Their diverse backgrounds and perspectives will support Trust Waikato’s ongoing commitment to building vibrant, resilient communities and creating opportunities for whaanau and hapori to thrive.
Commenting on the appointments, Hon Shane Jones said, “he believes the trust and their communities will benefit from the rich experience, knowledge, and community links the appointees bring”.
As Trust Waikato welcomes new trustees, it also acknowledges and gives thanks to three longstanding trustees who have completed their terms: Janise Eketone, Chris Flatt and Anjum Rahman.
Janise Eketone has served as a trustee since 2018, was appointed co-deputy chair in 2021, and became chair in 2024. Janise has helped guide Trust Waikato with clarity and care, strengthening its direction and connections with communities across the Waikato.
Chris Flatt has served as a trustee since 2018, was appointed co-deputy chair in 2021, and became deputy chair in 2024. Chris has made a significant contribution through his steady leadership, considered judgement, and commitment to community outcomes.
Anjum Rahman, also appointed in 2018, has brought valuable insight, compassion and advocacy to her role. Anjum’s commitment to inclusive, connected communities has enriched the Trust’s understanding of the diverse communities it serves.
Trust Waikato extends its sincere gratitude for their years of service and the enduring legacy they leave behind through stronger relationships, meaningful community impact and a solid foundation for future growth.
Ko too maatou moemoea kia tipu, kia hua ngaa hapori – Our vision is for vibrant and resilient communities.
Notes
The 12 community trusts of Aotearoa New Zealand collectively manage more than $3.5 billion in investments and distribute approximately $100 million each year to thousands of community organisations throughout the country.
Terms for appointees are for up to four years. Community trusts are governed by the Community Trusts Act 1999. They manage large investment portfolios and distribute grants for charitable, cultural, philanthropic and recreational purposes within their respective boundaries.
